In the Spring of 2021 SunLight initiated the development of a five-site solar project in Pequannock, New Jersey. The systems will provide clean energy to five public educational facilities, including the Pequannock Township High School, Middle School, and three elementary schools. As the construction phase nears completion SunLight looks forward to celebrating the environmental impact and financial success of the project.
The rooftop arrays culminate in a system size of 1.42 MW DC. The project will distribute an estimated 1.6-million-kilowatt hours to the schools in its first year of operation, representing an annual reduction in greenhouse gas emissions of 1,193 metric tons of carbon.
The school district’s transition to solar-generated electricity provides a valuable hedge against volatile utility rates. The integration of PV systems will reduce electricity costs by $153,000-$185,000 annually, affording the Board of Education $2.5 million in savings over the next fifteen years.
