SLG fall 2025 Field Trip!
The SLG team visited the Brooklyn Army Terminal, an iconic 20th-century industrial site with a fascinating history and the location of our new 725 kW solar facility.
The solar project builds on the Terminal’s legacy of innovation. Originally constructed as an intermodal rail and marine terminal, Building B was designed with a central atrium, allowing freight trains to drive directly into the building and cranes to extract cargo efficiently. That same space now supports 45,000 sq. ft. of rooftop solar modules, uniquely configured around the atrium.
The SLG team toured the Terminal, learning about the building’s history—from being the largest concrete building in the world when built in 1919, to serving as a storage warehouse for contraband during Prohibition, and later hosting more than 40 years of military operations. The team then went on the roof, where our engineers showed how the solar modules were strategically ballasted for the building’s architecture.
Known as “BAT” and affectionately nicknamed “Sunset Park Solar” after the surrounding neighborhood, this is SLG’s first completed solar project in New York City. We celebrate this project as an exciting addition to our portfolio.
