NEW YORK, NY — SunLight General Capital (“SunLight”) today announced the signing of a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) with the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey (PANYNJ) to develop, own, and operate over 5-megwatts of solar at Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR).
Under the structure, SunLight will retain full project ownership while delivering affordable and reliable energy to the Port Authority providing significant savings. The portfolio of five sites is expected to produce approximately 5.9 million kilowatt-hours of clean electricity in its first year, equivalent to the annual consumption of more than 550 homes. Construction is slated to begin this year, with commercial operation targeted for 2028.

The award expands SunLight General’s footprint in one of the most demanding infrastructure environments in the country and reinforces the company’s track record of executing complex, multi-site PPA solar projects for public sector and institutional partners.

Today we’re adding to that record with 5 megawatts of new solar capacity across five more sites, moving this airport and this agency even closer to net-zero emissions.”
