Is Solar Energy More ExpensiveNo! What is a PPA Contract?A power purchase agreement (PPA) is a contract, generally lasting 15 to 25 years, between Sunlight General Capital and our clients. We construct (at no upfront cost to you), operate, and maintain the solar array, and you agree to purchase the power generated from us.
-
What Happens When the PPA Expires? At the end of our contracts, you have three choices: clients can buy the system from Sunlight General Capital, we can negotiate a new PPA, or we can remove the system at no cost to you. If you decide to stop operations early or sell your property, you can take advantage of the early termination option in the PPA. This essentially allows you to buy the system from us, and include it in the valuation of your property.

Where Can Solar Panels Be Installed?Sunlight General Capital installs rooftop solar arrays, or ground-mounted solar systems, which can be installed on practically any tract of land. If you want to install a rooftop solar system, the roof must be certified as watertight and must be able to hold the weight of the solar panels. We can finance much smaller projects than most other solar companies, but the roof must still be large enough to allow enough panels to be financially feasible. If your rooftop is over 20,000 square feet, we can have a PPA solution for you. If you are interested in a ground-mounted array, we can make most empty tracts of land that are large enough (again 20,000 square feet is a good baseline) feasible for solar construction (i.e., flattened, cleared, etc.).
-
What Happens During the Night, Winter or When it Rains? Will I Lose Power?"No! Your regular connection to the grid remains unchanged with the installation of solar panels, so you can draw power from the utility as you previously have if the solar array is not generating as much as it would on a sunny day.

What is Community SolarIn a Community Solar project, participants benefit from the electricity generated by a solar array even when it is not directly connected to their homes or businesses. There is no up-front installation or maintenance cost charged to the clients. Instead, local participants sign up to become off-site users of a portion of a project's solar electric generation and receive a guaranteed discount on their regular utility bill. Community Solar is a way for everyone to play their part in meeting their state's renewable energy goals while receiving significant long-term savings.
